Seagull had the sunlight all to himself once, and he kept it locked away in a box. Raven saw the people lived in the cold and darkness, and put sea urchins outside Seagulls longhouse doorway, where he stepped on them in the darkness. Raven 'accidentally' cut Seagulls feet while pretending to cut out the urchin spines until Seagull relented to bring out his Sunlight Box, and Raven was able to release the Sunlight so that we could all share in the light and warmth.
