With his grandfather being Mungo Martin, and his father being Henry Hunt, Stan is a member of one of the first families of Northwest Coast carving. Stan's career began in 1976 by carving with his father every day for the next 13 years. As his father's apprentice, Stan learned all of the old stories, learned how to make his own carving tools, and assisted his father with six totem poles. Stan carved his first pole in 1982, and he has become renowned for his miniature totems, masks, limited edition prints, and bronzes. Stan's work is original with its roots based on the traditions of the Kwakwaka'wakw people.
