Noel began carving in 1994. He received training and inspiration from James Lewis. He has also worked and learned from other talented individuals such as Richard Baker, James Baker, and Darin Lewis. Noel worked with wood for years as a contractor before actually beginning to carve it. In 2010, Noel designed roadside banners that were commissioned by the City of Nanaimo and were erected throughout the city. In recent years, Noel has started to engrave silver jewellery and diversify his skill set.
