Lionel Samuels' crest is Eagle. His grandfather is Captain Andrew Brown, a well-known Haida argillite carver. He is the nephew of well-known Haida artist Sharon Hitchcock. Lionel has been carving professionally since the age of twenty. In 1990, Lionel went to Paris, France, with acclaimed Haida artist Bill Reid as a paddler on the canoe Lootaahs ("Wave Eater"). Lionel has three pieces in the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, DC.
