Cai Brown is a two-spirit multi-media artist who has been creating art from a young age using a variety of media including watercolour, pencil crayon, digital art, and most recently, beadwork. Cai finds inspiration from their friends and peers including Secwépemc artist Shay Paul, Kwantlen artist Atheana Picha, Squamish artist Aaron Nelson-Moody, and Eeyou beadworker Rain (@chapwechimuun). In 2022, they began to learn wood carving and tool making from Squamish artist Aaron Nelson-Moody. Cai’s work is influenced by the land they have grown up on, featuring flora and fauna from across Ontario and BC. Since 2019, Cai has been studying Arts and Science at Langara College with a focus on ecological conservation. They enjoy using art as a way to weave traditional teachings with western knowledge. In 2023, Cai designed the youth raffle box for the Annual Charity Bentwood Box event at Lattimer Gallery.
