Amy started carving argillite in the summer of 2005, shortly after she turned 17.  Her main teacher has been her father, Myles Edgars; however, she has also been mentored by Patrick Wesley. Amy is inspired by a variety of sources: hearing traditional stories, examining pictures of old carvings, observing the wildlife and scenery of Haida Gwaii, and looking at the work of other current Haida carvers.  She enjoys hiking into Slatechuck Creek to mine her own argillite and strongly values the unique nature of argillite.
