"The Skeena River has sustained my Gitxsan ancestors for time immemorial, and now continues to allow me to grow and thrive within my communities. It also sustains the salmon, the cedars, the birds, and every other species that lives or travels along its course. This sculpture tells the story of my appreciation of this live-giving body of water, and to honor the matriarchs who have and continue to protect and nurture both the water and the people in relation to it. In recognition of these important beings, it is also meaningful to celebrate the men who continue to hold up our culture and people in a good way, such as my mentor Dempsey Bob has done."
