This piece is part of the exhibition ‘Growing Together: Themes of Nurturing in Northwest Coast Silver Jewellery’ held at Lattimer Gallery between September 22 - October 6, 2023.

"The Octopus is the personification of nurturing and care. After laying eggs the mother octopus cares for them constantly until they are hatched. The eggs are lovingly kept clean by her blowing bubbles over them daily.  She rarely leaves the eggs and for the final days she won’t even leave them to feed. By the time the baby octopi emerge from the eggs she is near death, so that she gives her life to nurture her children, which are born, self-sufficient by instinct."
