"The 1" x 6" hummingbird with flower was designed with staying in form with the classic formline style of design in mind. It also included troutheads to stay in concert with the classic formline layout. The abstract layout with body and tail on the right, and wing and leg and some feathers on the left, I feel gave nice balance to the piece. Spring is seen as a new season and beginning, and this is why I like to add flowers to pieces as well as flowers being one of the hummingbirds main food source. " - Joe Wilson

This piece was created for the exhibition ‘Messages of Joy: Depictions of Hummingbirds in Northwest Coast Jewellery’ held at Lattimer Gallery between September 24 – October 8, 2022.
