Gramma Harris - Limited Edition Print
Raven Grenier
20” x 16”
Edition of 55
The Gramma Harris limited edition silk screen print is dedicated to the artist’s kookum, Margaret Harris. Margaret Harris was integral in revitalizing song and dance after the lifting of the Potlatch Ban, and started the We Yah Hani Nah Festival in Prince Rupert in 1967. The artist’s mentor on the print, David Boxley Sr., was gifted songs by Raven’s grandparents Ken and Margaret Harris in his home community of Metlakatla, Alaska in the 80's. The festival continues today as the Coastal Dance Festival, produced by Raven’s family the Dancers of Damelahamid. Proceeds from this print have gone towards giving away 75 of the artist proofs at the Similkameen Pow Wow of Champions Women’s Fancy Memorial Special for Gramma Harris that the family put on in the summer of 2024. The design is used as digital media in Raven Mother, the production that honours Gramma Harris, which premiered at the Cultch 2024 and had its national tour to DanseDanse, NAC, Public Energy and DanceWorks fall of 2024.
