Freda Diesing was the best known female Haida artist of her generation. She was tremendously influential to her peers, and her legacy lives on through the Freda Diesing School of Northwest Coast Art. This print features a design inspired by a rectangular bentwood box front. Bentwood boxes painted or carved with elaborate designs are often presented to honored guests during feasts or potlatches, used as burial boxes for ancestors, or used for safekeeping of textiles and regalia.
