"This box is a big take on Public Enemy's album Fear of a Black Planet. The integrity of the group shown at the time and the lyrical genius on the album is overwhelming, not to mention the sound. Give it a listen. Read about it. Thank you, Public Enemy, for steering us right. Major shout-out to my homie Ricky for the introduction to the group, mad love R.I.P.
The conception of the piece came with ease. Hearing all the chatter while visiting home in B.C was enough. Everywhere I went in public there was the not so quiet buzz of opinions, fears, questions, with the occasional, “It's about time.”
On the top is the Public Enemy logo with a person wearing a cedar hat.
Around three sides is the world being stretched like the truth, overlaying split “you”s.
On the back side, is that Flavor Salmon Flav announcing, “It's about time!”
Inside are dishonored treaties or confetti for the after party; I guess we still have to wait and see. On its underside, I signed with my X, witnessed by others. I assure you it's my X.
To all my loved ones on the front lines of protest when the clubs and teargas come out, please go home. Your life is too precious to us all; live to fight another day. Peace needs to start within.
Let us all not forget that this is a global issue; indigenous peoples around the world have been lied to, cheated, disbanded, relocated, and much, much, worse, regardless of color."
