Wilf Sampson is mostly a self-taught artist. He has been carving wood since 1981, and he completed Advanced Studies carving courses at the Gitanmaax School of Northwest Indian Art at 'Ksan in Hazelton, BC, from 1983 to 1984. At 'Ksan, Wilf was instructed by Earl Muldon, Ken Mowatt, Vernon Stevens, and the late Walter Harris. Major projects from the past included carving an 8-foot pole for the Houston Museum in Houston, BC, and carving a Wolf mask for the Glenbow Museum in Calgary, AB, during the Olympic Exhibition in 1988. While Wilf is widely known for his wood carving, he also produces original paintings.
