Encouraged by his mother at a young age to explore his culture, Tony has contributed greatly to his people through song and dance. His family is originally from Village Island, BC (also known as Mamalilikala), which is located off the north coast of Vancouver Island. In February of 2008, Tony graduated from the Northwest Coast Jewellery Arts Program at the Native Education College in Vancouver, which was led by Kwakwaka’wakw/Haida artist, Dan Wallace. This was his first formal art training.
