Tony is Nuu-chah-nulth from the Ahousaht First Nation. He began an apprenticeship in 1995 under his two uncles, Elliott Jones and Isaac Charlie. While Tony has been focusing on wood carving, he is excited to begin working in silver and gold. Tony's grandfather, Chief Hudson Webster, gave him the traditional Nuu-chah-nulth name Hu-pa-li-ya’tukwap, which means "Of the Moon People." In February of 2008, Tony graduated from the Northwest Coast Jewellery Arts program at Vancouver's Native Education College, which was led by Haida/Kwakwaka’wakw artist Dan Wallace. This same year, Tony received a Canada Council Grant for Traditional Creation in Aboriginal Art.
