From an early age, Charlene has been exposed to Northwest Coast art, and she has many known artists within her family. Charlene approaches her art from an interdisciplinary approach in photography, portrait drawing, and traditional Coast Salish art. Her mentors are Tahltan artist, Alano Edzerza, and artist, Tamara Skubovius.
